Emberfall Saga
Emberfall Saga is a proper time sink for anyone who misses chunky handheld RPGs. You build a party of four, each with their own skill trees, and work through a story that actually bothers to give its characters motivations. Combat is turn-based, so it's friendly to short bursts, but the deeper fights ask you to think about turn order and elemental weaknesses.
The touch controls are tidy. Menus are big enough to hit without misfires, and the auto-battle toggle is handy when you're grinding a familiar area one-handed. We did notice the phone warming up during longer cutscenes, and the battery drop is steeper than a casual game, so keep a charger near on marathon sessions.
The writing carries it. There's a dry humor to the companion banter that kept us reading instead of skipping. If you set the text speed down a notch in settings, the pacing feels much better.
What we liked
- Deep but readable combat
- Party customization that matters
